TMS for Other Indications

Off-label TMS considerations for anxiety, bipolar depression, PTSD, and schizophrenia negative symptoms.

Additional Indications

Off-label TMS considerations and CE-marked indications

There is medical evidence on the benefits of TMS for other mental health diagnoses in addition to Major Depressive Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Smoking Cessation.

Research and international regulatory status continue to evolve for conditions such as:

  • General Anxiety Disorder
  • Bipolar Depression
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Schizophrenia (negative symptoms)

At our U.S. clinic, use of TMS for these conditions would be off-label and could be carefully considered on a case-by-case basis. The psychiatrist and patient would review the current medical evidence, the specific mental health diagnosis, potential benefits, risks, alternatives, and cost before deciding whether treatment is appropriate. The off-label use of TMS is not covered by health insurance at this time.

For more information about TMS for these indications please contact us or visit BrainsWay's regulatory overview .

Regulatory status

  • In the United States, BrainsWay Deep TMS has FDA clearances for specific indications, including MDD, OCD, smoking cessation, and anxious depression.
  • BrainsWay reports European CE marking for several conditions, including bipolar disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia (negative symptoms).
  • CE marking is not FDA clearance. Those CE-marked indications are not FDA-cleared for treatment in the United States.
